Proverbs 31
Noble Character
Read Proverbs Chapter 31
Key Verse | Proverbs 31:30-31
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
Reflection
The book of Proverbs closes with what is probably the most famous passage in the book: The Wife of Noble Character.

While the writer is indeed describing a woman who exemplifies the character of God in all that she does, the principles of the proverb apply to both men and women. These verses describe wisdom, righteousness, and holiness in action. What good is wisdom if it is not applied (wisdom is the application of knowledge after all)? What good is righteousness if it does not lead us to do right things? What good is holiness if my holiness only affects me and no one else.

We cannot curry favor with God by what we do, but God’s grace must and will affect what we do. Character is earned by what we do. So, put the wisdom you’ve learned over these last 31 days to work.

Self-Examine
1. What have I learned over the last 31 days from this journey through Proverbs?

2. What are one or two things (attitudes, habits, etc…) that wisdom tells me I need to commit to the Lord? Am I willing to surrender it (them)?
Prayer
Father, thank you for this journey through your Word. Help me to not only know your Word, but to apply your Word to my heart. Let what has been planted in me through your Word flow out in my character and in my conduct. May I be guided by your wisdom and filled with your grace. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen!
