“I am weary, God,
but I can prevail.
2 Surely I am only a brute, not a man;
I do not have human understanding.
3 I have not learned wisdom,
nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One.
4 Who has gone up to heaven and come down?
Whose hands have gathered up the wind?
Who has wrapped up the waters in a cloak?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and what is the name of his son?
Surely you know!
Reflection
Ever heard the phrase, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”? Did you know that is patently false. Older dogs are actually easier to train than puppies because they have better focus, reduced distractibility, and established routines.
When we have been established in our habits (or sins) for a long time we could be tempted to think it’s too late to change. The writer of Proverbs 30 begins the Proverb with a confession. He knows he has not walked in wisdom and righteousness as he should have, but he places his faith in the God who can gather up the wind, wrap the waters in a cloak, and establish the ends of the earth. When you are struggling to apply wisdom remember these words from this Proverb: “I am weary, God, but I can prevail.”

Self-Examine
1. Do you truly believe God can change the things in you that don’t please him? Remember, you don’t have all the answers, but God does.
2. Do you really want to surrender to God and change the things in you that don’t please him? What is holding you back?
Prayer
God I truly want to change. I want my life to reflect your character, your righteousness, and your holiness. Call out everything in my heart and life that is unclean and help me to surrender it to you. Fill me with your grace, your love, and your mercy. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen!
