18 Plans are established by seeking advice;
29 The glory of young men is their strength,
gray hair the splendor of the old.
Reflection
Some of the greatest mistakes in history were made because good advice was ignored. In 1912 as the Titanic was embarking on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic multiple wireless messages were received warning of icebergs in the area. The crew continued to sail at high speeds, believing the ship to be unsinkable. As a result the ship struck and iceberg and sank, resulting in over 1,500 deaths.
Wise people listen to good advice. Independence is not strength. Important decisions require counsel. God never intended for us to navigate life alone. Wisdom pauses to listen to sound advice. Seeking counsel is not weakness but humility in action.
In the biblical vision of community the young learn to seek counsel, and the old offer it generously. The strength of the young and the wisdom of the old are meant to serve one another. When strength listens to wisdom, and wisdom affirms strength, the body of Christ flourishes.

The Blessing by Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes
Self-Examine
1. When facing important decisions, do I intentionally seek wise counsel – or do I rely mainly on my own judgment?
2. Is pride keeping me from asking for help in areas where I feel uncertain or defensive?
Prayer
Lord of all wisdom, forgive me for the times I have trusted my own understanding more than your guidance. Give me a humble heart that seeks wise counsel and listens without defensiveness. Protect me from pride that isolates me from the wisdom you provide through others. Give me wisdom to both receive and give good advice. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen!
