3 A person’s own folly leads to their ruin,
yet their heart rages against the Lord.
Reflection
When you do foolish things who do you blame? A bad decision… a broken relationship… a financial mistake… and our base instinct can be to try and blame someone else. Proverbs 19 speaks directly into that instinct. Foolish choices can wreck our lives – and then tempt us to blame God and/or everyone else for the fallout.
In a world obsessed with image and influence Proverbs 19 insists that character matters more than cash, teachability matters more than talent, and humility matters more than being right.
So when you are tempted to blame others, first look inward. Search your own heart. Be quick to listen and willing to receive correction. Foolishness leads to ruin, but the fear of the Lord leads to life, security, and rest.

Self-Examine
1. When things go wrong are you quick to blame others?
2. If you’ve made foolish mistakes stop beating yourself up about it. Admit your mistake, look inward, receive correction, and trust the Lord with both the consequences and your future.
Prayer
Dear Lord, help me to be quick to admit my own mistakes and slow to blame others. When my instinct is to cast blame help me to stop, look inward, and ask you to search my own heart first. I thank you that you are gracious and forgiving. Shape my character by your grace, so that my choices reflect your wisdom and my life honors you. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen!
