10 When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices;
when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
11 Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,
but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.
Reflection
How often do you think about your influence? You have influence whether you think you do or not. You influence those you work with. You influence those you play with. You influence your neighbors. You influence your children and grandchildren. Through your influence you can impact your environment for good or for bad. In Proverbs 10 the Teacher says that when the righteous prosper, the city rejoices, and through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted. Most of us underestimate our influence. We underestimate the amount of good we can do.
As you read Proverbs 11 you will notice that the Teacher shifts towards a focus on character. Character matters. Character isn’t just about the big moments; character is doing the right and good thing especially when you don’t think anyone is watching. And good character shapes the community around you.

Self-Examine
1. In what ways are you shaping your community, for good or for bad?
2. Make a list of some people in your life over whom you have influence. Ask God to help you reflect Christ-like character in your dealings with each of them.
3. What are some ways you can impact this community for good?
Prayer
Dear God help me to reflect Christ-like character in all that I do. Not just when people are watching, but even when they are not. Show me ways I can impact my community for you. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen!
