10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 For through wisdom your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life.
Reflection
In Proverbs 9 we are invited to choose between wisdom and folly. The Teacher paints a picture of two meals and two houses. The two meals and two houses represent the two paths of wisdom and folly. The path of wisdom leads to life, but the path of folly leads to death. The choice seems obvious. But if the choice is so obvious then why do so many choose the fools’ path?
The truth is that the fools’ path often offers immediate, self-seeking gratification and requires no discipline. But folly is shallow, and its instant pleasures mask eventual destruction. Wisdom requires surrender and sacrifice. Wisdom begins when surrender our lives to the Lordship of Christ, and as we grow in him we grow in grace and knowledge.
Verse 11 is not a guarantee that life will never be hard. Rather, it is a principle: living in alignment with God’s design leads to stability, depth, and flourishing.

Self-Examine
1. Do I believe that God’s ways truly lead to life, even when obedience feels costly?
2. What does “fear of the Lord” look like in my daily life? Is it visible in my speech, priorities, and habits?
Prayer
Dear God, I believe the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. I surrender to your will and to your Way. I thank you for the presence of Jesus in my life, and the infilling of the Holy Spirit. Help me to align my life with your Word, in my speech, in my priorities, and in my habits. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen!
