Proverbs 5
Looks Can Be Deceiving
Read Proverbs Chapter 5
Key Verses | Proverbs 5:3-4
3 For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; 4 but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword.
Reflection
Have you ever heard the phrases, “looks can be deceiving” or “the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence?” Just because something looks good doesn’t mean it is good. From outside the fence the cow pasture may look beautifully green, but what gives it its luscious color are the piles of cow dung that can be found everywhere. Proverbs 5 warns us about the danger and destructiveness of adultery. But the lesson really goes even further than that. Sin often looks good on the outside. And it is enticing. But, as the Apostle Paul reminds us, “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). So, remember, just because it looks good doesn’t mean it is good. Satan doesn’t tempt us with poison; he tempts us with apple pie. It might look good on the outside, but it will be poison to our soul. So avoid sin at all cost, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you when you are tempted.

Lord I Want to Be Holy by Alicia Williamson
Self-Examine
1. One of the ways Satan weasels his way into our heart is by convincing us what God has given us isn’t enough. Take some time to list some of the things God has given you and express your thankfulness for each thing.
2. What is your biggest area of temptation (sexual sin, overeating, etc…). Surrender those areas to God and ask for his strength to overcome.
Prayer
Dear God you know everything about me. My ways are in full view of you Lord, and you examine all my paths. Show me the areas of my life in which I am weak and help me to surrender them to you. When my eyes or my heart are wandering from your ways convict me, and draw me back to you as I surrender to your will. I love you and I praise you. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
